In 1976, Randy left Allentown, Pennsylvania, hopped on his 1972 Yamaha 360 Enduro motorcycle and drove to California to begin a new adventure in life. Beguiled by the freedom and opportunity of a newfound journey. Randy began working for the largest landscape company in the United States and now a competitor. While working there, he started doing side jobs; all residential landscape maintenance. Eventually, he went to work for the Port of San Diego as a gardener, then worked for the City of San Diego in Balboa Park and finally worked at Mission Bay Park.
In 1980, after working 4 years in the Landscape Industry, something sparked inside Randy. He began reading book after book, mostly inspirational readings, and others on business and entrepreneurship - Randy made a decision to pursue his ultimate dream – creating his own business.
New Way started in the year 1980. It started with one truck, Randy at the wheel, working the residential hills of San Diego. He had a passion for gardening and learned the basics on his own. After a few years, Randy hired a couple other guys , and together, they began servicing more and more residences. Their client list included some well known celebrities and athletes like Steve Garvey, Capt Mike the Weatherman and many more.. At one point, his residential portfolio consisted of over 250 residential homes.
His company's portfolio expanded when he began providing maintenance to HOA, Commercial and Government properties. Randy's reputation of running a quality landscape maintenance company was beginning to grow; he knew he had to venture into the sales side of the business. Randy starting by joining trade organizations within the landscape industry. He served on the Board of Directors for the San Diego Chapter of California Landscape Contractors Association (CLCA) for a number of years. While serving on the CLCA Board, he also chaired the Education Committee, San Diego CAI Board of Directors for 3 years and past Co-Chairman of the Golf and Tennis Charity Classics for 2 years . He has also been a member of BOMA's Program & Events Committee, chaired that committee for many years and served on the BOMA Board.

Randy has served on many speaker panels for various industry associations and has spoken to many groups about landscaping and running a successful business. His articles have been published in local and national trade publications. His own yard has been featured on TV - on Backyards San Diego with Larry Himmel, won awards from San Diego Home and Garden Magazine and Ramona Water District. The Discovery Channel even shot a segment of their show "Gimmie Shelter" in his garden.
New Way has won numerous awards for Landscape Beautification, Xeriscape and Water Management with the local and statewide California Landscape Contractors Associations.
Over the years, Randy has acquired the following certifications to promote his experience in landscape horticulture. They include:
Certified Landscape Technician, Maintenance (CLTM), Certified Landscape Technician, Irrigation (CLTI), Certified Landscape Irrigation Auditor (CLIA), Qualified Applicator License (QAL)
Today, Randy Newhard owns a business that's grown for 30 successful years. We now have over 200 employees,75 trucks and locations in South County San Diego, San Diego, North County San Diego, Inland Empire and Riverside County. In 2010, New Way is even expanding into Orange County. Randy has greatly surpassed the success he read about in so many books. Not only is he a well known, well loved man, but he is the epitome of greatness when it comes to running a company.
Randy plans to continue growing New Way Landscape into a nationwide Landscape Maintenance Company and anticipates becoming the next "big thing" in sustainability.

I came to work at New Way Landscape & Tree Services, after my first year of college in 1997. Growing up, I had strived and dreamt about being many things, varying from lawyer, to psychologist, social worker, business manager, information technology consultant, to graphic artist…the list always kept growing. After 12 “solid” years of year-round, statewide traveling competitive fast-pitch softball - in addition to school, I was exhausted. So I asked my Father, Randy Newhard, if I could join the “family business” at age 18.
I started at the very bottom, being the company receptionist who answered the phone “Good Morning New Way!” My Father, Randy, started me at minimum wage. If I were going to do this, I was going to do it the way he had - from the bottom! After a couple of years handling the front desk, I ventured into the Accounting Department, where I handled the typical A/R & A/P responsibilities. The more I learned about the company’s inner-workings the more creative I felt. Randy began to let me run with some ideas, and I began creating several databases to manage the extra maintenance work invoices, equipment inventory, customer sales contacts and the Customer Information Database. Reporting and Database management turned out to be something I enjoyed. I was very innovative in developing ways to manage this data and information as well as figuring out the best ways to store New Way’s information. In particular we needed these systems for archiving, data storage, and quick referencing. It provided a way to streamline tasks in administration as a whole. Since I was creatively charged, I was promoted out of Accounting, and into my own new department which was known as the SRS (Service Request System-Customer Service Dept.). It was then that I created the Customer Service Database to enter, store, and have and the online capabilities of previewing your work orders via the web and track service requests for internal control and accountability. Not only does this allow clients to review their work orders online. We were able to track our account managers work order and hold them accountable for what needed to be done.
After a few years perfecting the S.R.S. Database and the processes that go hand in hand with that department, I was promoted into Marketing where I worked for about 4 years developing all the advertising, marketing pieces, post cards, newsletters, PowerPoint presentations, brochures, tri-folds, articles, etc.. I also attended all the sales functions, from trade shows to golf tournaments, to holiday’s events and fundraisers. This was my favorite part of working at New Way. I loved being able to fulfill the creativity I had inside, and this was the perfect opportunity to do it.
Then one day my Dad came to me and said he was looking for a “partner”. Someone to share the business with. But especially, someone with whom he could trust his life's work with. Someone who’d have the same desire to keep this company alive, profitable, and reputable. Randy Newhard isn't someone I could ever replace, but when it came to running the business the way he would, he knew his only daughter would carry out that task with passion! That person was me. That was back in 2006. Since then, I have been the Corporate Director, managing the businesses corporate needs, and infrastructure. In 2007, my Father asked me to become President. Since then I have been acting President, helping to streamline all internal processes as well as external processes. My current goal is to implement the New Way University so all new employees that join our team go through an extensive training program and are thorough, knowledgeable, and productive on New Way’s landscape properties, as well as productive internally. While being the President, I am sure many top level management people can relate to the multitude of goals I have in my Outlook Tasks/Journals. *Laughs* This year, I plan to implement another project to improve New Way as a company. No company is perfect, but I plan to get as close as I can.
It's been 14 years since I started at New Way, and I am just as passionate about this company today as I was a decade ago...and working side by side with my Father is a gift many daughters don’t have the opportunity to experience, and I am thankful every day I am here and for the honor and the respect my father has shown me. New Way is home to me, and always will be.

Dan Suhovecky is the CFO of New Way Landscape & Tree Services and is responsible for the oversight of all financial and accounting functions within the organization. He reports directly to the president and CEO and is a member of the company’s Executive Leadership Team.
Dan began his career with New Way in 2007. Prior to that Dan has been in various financial management positions including most recently CFO for Interior Specialists, Inc. He brings nearly 25 years of accounting experience to New Way as well as over 15 years in the construction industry.Dan holds a BSBA from the University of Missouri – St. Louis and has passed all parts of the CPA exam.

As Branch Manager at New Way Landscape and Tree Services, I am responsible for my Account Managers, and our Military Accounts.
For over 20 years I have been a New Way team member and over time I have worn many hats.
In 2004, my task was to improve our Safety Program. I thought it would be a "piece of cake", but I was sorely wrong. New Way's standard of safety requires a lot of research and hard work. With my efforts, our company immediately began receiving star awards from both ALCA & Planet's safety programs. In 2007, we received a prestigious award from the Artisan Group Safety Program resulting from having zero workers compensation claims. Very few companies receive this award as it is very difficult to obtain in the service and contracting industries. We have custom-designed our Safety Programs to suit New Way's strict safety procedures and policies.
In 2006, I was promoted to the position Branch Manager & Safety Coordinator.
For 25 years I've been husband to my first love – we've raised three beautiful children. In my spare time, I work in my personal garden and play hardball. My favorite time of the year is winter; when snowboarding season is in. I also love to sit on my back patio next to my fire pit, smoking a good cigar and sipping a fine glass of wine.

Brandon Walker has been in the landscape industry for 19 years. He started his career in golf course maintenance at Park Meadows Golf Club in Park City, Utah. He has successfully constructed and maintained such courses in the Southern California area such as Hidden Valley Golf Club (Norco,CA), Eagle Glen Golf Club (Corona,CA), and The Champions Club at The Retreat (Corona,CA).
He is bi-lingual, has a degree in turf grass management, holds a Qualified Applicators License and is currently working on becoming a Certified Arborist. He has successfully managed large scale Home Owners Associations and commercial properties.
His hobbies include USC football, Angels baseball, golf, wakeboarding and snowboarding. He loves the challenge of the industry and meeting all the requests that all customers ask of him. He loves working for New Way because it is a fun company and we put out a great product.

After serving as a Radioman in the Navy - stuck with high security clearances and dealing in high security communications - I had a desire to be outdoors. I then gravitated toward Landscape Management. My new career started by working as a federal civil servant while working toward a degree in my new field.
My career path led me to work as a Landscape Manager for 12 years with 5-star resorts. This endeavor allowed me to, not only manage various crews at the various resorts, but also allowed me to work closely with the resort's owner (up to his untimely death) and his hand selected Landscape Architect, a professor at the University of Oklahoma. My position gave me great exposure to Engineers, Architects and Construction Managers… it seemed we were always in an expansion phase. This adventure also introduced me to the world of interior foliage.
A peer at Environmental Care, Inc., knowing of my experience, invited me to work with the largest Exterior/Interior landscape company in the United States. Here, I not only managed exterior landscape accounts, but managed the Interiors Division for their San Diego branch. During this tenure, my Interiors Division achieved our company's top national status.
Knowing and understanding Randy's passion for providing quality service is why I am here today!

Alex works as our Arbor Care Administrator responsible for processing all Tree Contracts, Master Plans, scheduling of work and Client Care. Alex has been working as a Golf Superintendent since 1996 - starting at Twin Oaks, then moving to Oaks North and ending at Mt. Woodson Golf Club. As a Golf Superintendent, Alex was responsible for ensuring the beautification of the courses entire grounds, including landscape, trees, irrigation, fertilization, and managing the staff. Alex also has his Bachelors in International Business from San Diego State University. With Alex's extensive background in Trees and Landscape, coupled with Business, he provides the perfect balance and completion to the Tree Company staff, as well as further enhances the company's capabilities in providing Excellent Customer Satisfaction.

Stacy is exceptionally proficient in Outlook, Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Adobe Acrobat, FilemakerPRO and CorelDraw.
Stacy has 4-1/2 years experience in processing service requests, work orders, proposals, walkthroughs, writing policies and procedures. She has 10 years of experience in customer relations working as a loan processor for Mortgage Solutions, an Administration Supervisor for ReMax Real Estate and a Customer Service Representative for U-HAUL. She obtained her AA Degree in Liberal Science, emphasis in Social Sciences/Psychology from Mesa College in May of 2010, received her Notary Public in June of 2011 and is currently enrolled as a Psychology Major at San Diego State University, scheduled to graduate in the spring of 2013.
Stacy has been with New Way for just over four years and has a special talent for making sure the New Way office runs smoothly and efficiently for all of our valued customers. She is charged with overseeing all customer service interaction, proposals, monthly walkthroughs, and client correspondence as well as ordering office supplies, setting up new Customer files, distributing daily faxes to the appropriate parties, and any other additional support required by New Way’s employees or clientele.

EJ started in Business Development with New Way in March of 2008: he has specialized in outside sales and client management for over 20 years. Currently, he is responsible for IT/Helpdesk, design and marketing, email systems, and website design/maintenance for www.newwaypro.com and www.newwaytrees.com.
He spends his time hiking, camping, and taking pictures of the plant-life around the mountains and deserts of Southern California. His excursions include the Anzo-Borrego Desert, Laguna Mountains, Lake Cuyamaca, Cowles Mountain, parts of Jamul and Alpine, Kofa/Arizona, and The Cargo Muchacho Mountains…he holds an extensive photo collection of wildflowers and succulents from these areas.

In his role as Human Resources and Accounting for New Way, Aaron Grubbs is responsible for HR related issues, payroll, and various accounting functions. Aaron began his career with New Way in 2000, after graduating from SDSU. He has held roles with New Way as Accounts Payable, Accounts Receivable, Collections, and Accounting Assistant. His background includes several years of experience working within the company. He has attended several HR related seminars to further his education. Aaron holds a Bachelor Degree in Accounting from San Diego State University.
